Charlie is a handsome (beautiful), 64-pound 3 or 4 year old, white Standard Poodle. Charlie has had at least 2 prior owners for that one reason or another decided they couldn’t or wouldn’t keep him. Their loss… our gain!
Charlie came into our life a few weeks after our beloved Flat Coat Retriever Shadrak, passed away from a sudden heart attack. Our 18 month-old 38 pound Standard Poodle Georgie, was mourning the loss of her companion and in three weeks had lost more the 10% of her body weight. That’s when we decided to call Brad and Madeline Patterson to inquire about rescue dogs and that’s when Charlie found us!
Charlie is of course, a perfect dog! So far, Charlie has been perfect at “stealing” (and eating) a wrapped loaf of bread off of our kitchen counter, a complete Angel Food Cake and the sealed container in which it came, wrapped crackers out of a cracker box, his own food out of a locked portable storage container as well as left-overs from dinner, no matter where we have thought they were safely stored. He also knows how to open the lid and drink out of a toilet, even though he has a one-gallon, fresh-water bowl available at all times.
Then again he travels well in our Suburban, preferring to rest on chaise-lounge cushions in the rear while his companion roams about the entire vehicle.
Charlie has so far been to Yosemite, Muir Woods, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. He pretty much sticks to us like glue, unless there is a Chipmunk or other interesting small animal to chase. He will sleep anywhere, but prefers to sleep on our bed or sofas and at the very least, he expects to cuddle so that his big head is resting on our chest or stomach! He is the largest, cuddliest dog we have ever seen or lived with!
Chralie really enjoys playing with his younger companion Georgie, except she tends to wear him out! He’s also great on walks and he obeys basic commands pretty well. He is a very happy Poodle and because of Charlie, we are once again a happy family! Thanks Poodle Club of Southern California!
