Dear Madeline and Brad,
Just wanted to give you the update on our new Poodle Pal - Lacey! And request her "before/after" photos!
She's doing great! She is such a sweet thing! She stays close to us, stuck like glue (which, quite frankly, we really like!). So does the cat (which has amazed us.....the cat is actually a lot nicer, now that we have the dog.....).
We have kept Lacey in her crate in our bedroom at night for a few nights. She starts off with a brief whine, which then goes into a pant, and then ends with a little "gag" routine. Then, it simmers down to a little whine. So, within 10 minutes....all of us are asleep. So, so far, so good!
She appears to be house broken...haven't had any accidents. She doesn't relieve herself all that often, though - but, she does when we go for a walk. We're trying to figure out her pattern.
She seems to be pretty picky about her food. We bought the food that you had been giving her (Nutra..?). She didn't like it. So, after a day or so, we gave her a Science Diet product - which she is eating sporadically. We're trying to figure out her food routine, too.
I gave her a little bath today. She was okay with it, pretty much. Her face gets really dirty! We had her muzzle trimmed just a little. She's a little doll! We have spent a lot of time with her. Jonathan took Monday off as a vacation day to spend time with her. I have the holiday off today, so Lacey is sleeping on her favorite blanket on the floor in my office right now. She wasn't at all interested in the really nice dog bed we bought for her. So, we're returning it and my new blanket is now hers! (She seems to sleep a lot. Is that what dogs do?)
Jonathan already taught her how to "sit." She also learned "no bark" and is learning "off." She barks very rarely...once when the cat tried to steal her bone (gutsy thing for a cat to do, don't you think?!) or bothers her - when the housekeepers came in today and when she saw our neighbor out at her car. So, she does seem to be pretty protective. Also, extremely tolerant of cats! Our cat has been trying to pull all kinds of "dominance" things....Lacey puts up with most of it, until she's had her limit...then she takes off after the cat if she is off leash (and, we don't blame her a bit!)
By the way, has Lacey's son/brother/family member little guy been adopted? I sure hope so? We're thinking the two of them are mixed with Bichon? What do you think? Their faces are wider than most poodles it seems.
Anyway, we're sure loving this little poodle. Be sure to tell the new owners of Lacey's son where we are. Would be interesting to have us all meet up some time again!
Thanks for taking care of Lacey while we waited a few days to come get her. It was a VERY long wait for us! We could hardly stand the wait to come get her last Saturday, but it worked out quite well.
Take care!
Valerie and Jonathan Fox
