During the Southern California fall fires of 2003, this miniature poodle, originally named Kiss had her hip broken when a tree fell on her during evacuation in the Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead region.
She had two unsuccessful surgeries before she was turned over to The Poodle Club of Southern California Rescue.
Dr. Bradley Patterson decided that she needed a femoral head excision, (Removal of the ball of the hip.) so Dr. Patterson did the hip surgery and spayed her and she was adopted by Susan and Arnold Becker.
Dear Madeline and Brad,
We have re-named "Kiss". She is now "Cuddles." Her leg is not 100% yet, but we see it getting better every day. Let's say it's about 75% now. She is completely acclimated to her new home and is happy and content.
Thank you for doing what you do. You make the world a better place.

March 24, 2004 Susan and Arnold write again:
Dear Madeline and Brad,
We are the people who adopted the black miniature poodle that you know as Kiss, and whose name we changed to Cuddles. As I'm sure you will recall, Cuddles had FHO surgery before we adopted her. We want you to know that she is completely healed and not only walks on four legs, but stands on her hind legs when she wants something out of reach.
We are delighted with her. We spoil her. She's happy. As you know she was a show dog. Because she was a 'working girl' there were many 'homey' things that she had not learned. For example she did not fetch, play tug-of-war or play with toys. We taught her all of these things and it is remarkable just how fast she learns. With the help of a trainer we have taught her to sit on command and to stay. In short, we are delighted with her and want to know how thankful we are to have her.
Fondly,
Susan and Arnold
